Tapiola Sinfonietta ![]() Tapiola Sinfonietta, Espoo City Orchestra, was founded in 1987 on the Viennese Classical model. Today it has 41 players. Its repertoire extends from the Baroque to the present day and if necessary beyond the confines of ‘classical’ music. Acclaimed as one of the finest chamber orchestras in Scandinavia, Tapiola Sinfonietta is a champion of contemporary Finnish music and premieres many new works each season. The orchestra is also a regular participant in all manner of crossover artistic projects. Tapiola Sinfonietta has won renown on its numerous foreign tours. Its discs have likewise been internationally acclaimed. Jorma Panula and Osmo Vänskä were two of the orchestra’s Artistic Directors in the early years. The Jean-Jacques Kantorow era beginning in 1993 had a decisive influence in shaping the orchestra’s present-day profile. Nowadays without a Chief Conductor, the Tapiola Sinfonietta makes its own decisions on artistic policy. Since autumn 2006 it has had three Artists in Association – Olli Mustonen, Pekka Kuusisto and Stefan Asbury – with whom it works in close partnership. |
