Christoffer Sundqvist
Christoffer Sundqvist was born in 1978, studied the clarinet at the Sibelius Academy and continued in Basel with François Benda. He has also attended master classes with Charles Neidich, Ronald van Spaendonck and others. A laureate in many competitions, he has been principal clarinetist in the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2005 and has premiered such works as the double Concerto for clarinet and viola by Aulis Sallinen, with Tommi Aalto. He is an active chamber musician, appearing in a concert of chamber music by Magnus Lindberg at the 2007 Helsinki Festival and recently premiering a Lindberg Trio for clarinet, cello and piano dedicated to him. He has also premiered the Clarinet Concertos by Markus Fagerudd and Sebastian Fagerlund, along with numerous works with his chamber ensemble by such composers as Pehr Henrik Nordgren, Sampo Haapamäki and Atso Almila. In 2004 he was awarded an artist’s grant by the National Council for Music.
