The Finnish Boys’ Choir
The Finnish Boys’ Choir was formed in 1995 on the initiative of the Laulu-Miehet male choir and the Sibelius Academy. In 2001 it amalgamated with the Suomen Kuoro-opisto choral college and is now also a Helsinki Conservatory choir. Its Artistic Director is Anna Toivakka. For boys interested in singing and music the choir is a chance to make and study music with like-minded peers. Its repertoire is varied and well suited to a boys’ choir, the emphasis being on classical music but also taking in a wide range of other genres. Like the other Kuoro-opisto choirs, the Boys’ Choir regularly takes part in joint productions. It pays special attention to healthy voice training and the boys all receive individual vocal tuition each term. When their voices have broken, they transfer to the All 4 Voices youth choir, though they still continue to appear in the ranks of the Boys’ Choir occasionally.
