Jukka Nykänen
Jukka Nykänen began taking piano lessons at the Espoo Music Institute in 1985, at the age of nine. He later studied with Teppo Koivisto at the Sibelius Academy, graduating in 2004. His teachers in master classes included Konstantin Bogino, Liisa Pohjola, Matti Raekallio, Pascal Devoyon and Eero Heinonen and his debut concert in 2006 received excellent reviews. An extremely versatile musician, Nykänen is closely involved with vocal music, theatre and other genres. His solo repertoire includes numerous piano arrangements of his own that have been enthusiastically received. He has been the pianist and conductor of many musicals at the Helsinki City Theatre and likewise has experience of opera, ballet and with orchestras. He has been heard on radio programmes about music, at the Espoo International Piano Festival and the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival.
