Ida Lundén Ida Lundén is a Stockholm composer and musician. As a composer she is mainly involved with chamber and electronic music, and as a player can be heard solo and in various constellations focusing on electronic and improvised music. Her music covers a wide range of expression: exploring sound and new playing techniques in such works as Vingring and Klocka med Micro, drawing inspiration, soundwise and rhythmically, from other forms of music, such as the Indian dhrupad in dinana-dánana, Finnish tango in Halusin, African wind music in Boom-choff-leuit and performance-based solo pieces like Han and Spänst åt alla. She often performs her music in a theatrical context, most recently at a concert at the Gävle Theatre focusing on the interplay of light and sound. “Halusin was written during a stay in Dresden on a scholarship. On my way there I had a stopover in Helsinki. There in one of the airport’s souvenir shops I found the two well-known Finnish tango tunes on which this piece is built: Unikuva and Satumaa. The words roughly outlined in German, Swedish and Finnish tell a love story with problems. First a dream about the other, then an abortive encounter and lastly a miserable song about loneliness. “In a way I see myself more as a musician than as a composer. I certainly write my music down but I preferably do so in close collaboration with musicians and performers. I think of the notes I write as a partner starting up a conversation and interaction. It’s difficult to come along with a few rough ideas on a sheet of A4 paper and then make great music with an orchestra. So among other things I mostly work with chamber music. When an orchestra is a large collection of instruments chosen at will and not a symphony orchestra I may possibly change.” |
