The Hamrahlid Choir

The Hamrahlid Choir was founded in 1967 by Þorgerður Ingólfsdóttir, who     remains its Conductor. The choir is made up of past and present students at Reykjavík´s Hamrahlíd College. As is the rule with school choirs there is a considerable turnover in the membership every year. The choir has traveled extensively and given concerts in Europe, North America and Asia. Recent ventures include Estonia (2004), Canada (2005) and the Europe Cantat festival in Mainz, Germany (2006). Over the years Hamrahlíðarkórinn  has stimulated many Icelandic composers to write music specifically for the choir and its conductor, suited to the choir's distinctive sound and character.
