Sampo Haapamäki

Sampo Haapamäki was born in 1979. He studied composition at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki 1998-2005 with Tapio Nevanlinna (1998-2002) and Veli-Matti Puumala (2002-2005) and graduated as a master of music. He has taken master-classes under Magnus Lindberg, Luca Francesconi, Nöel Lee, Jouni Kaipainen and Esa-Pekka Salonen. In 2005 Haapamäki started his composition doctoral studies in Columbia University with Tristan Murail.

He was finalist at the Queen Elisabeth Competition for Composition in Brussels 2003 and got the Second Prize at the competition for composers announced by The Association of Baltic Academies of Music ABAM, 2003. In 2004 he was awarded the Gaudeamus Prize at the Gaudeamus Music Week in Amsterdam and in 2005 ISCM-Cash Award at the ISCM festival in Zagreb. He is member of Ears Open Society and Society of Finnish Composers.

New work for Time of Music festival 2007 in Viitasaari for Quartuor Diotima, New work for Linea Ensemble, New work for Helsinki Chamber Choir, New work for New work for Gaudeamus Music Week 2008 for Veli Kujala (quarter-tone accordion) and Insomnio Ensemble conducted by Ulrich Pöhl.
