Jukka Koskinen
I studied composition at the Sibelius Academy under Einojuhani Rautavaara 1984-1988, Kalevi Aho 1988-1992 and Anders Eliasson 1993-1994. I had some further studies at Accademia Internazionale Superiore di Musica, Biella (Italy), with Franco Donatoni autumn 1988 and at Hochschule der Künste, Berlin, with Witold Szalonek 1991-1993.
Orbis Terrae et Veneris (11')
I chose the title Orbis Terrae et Veneris (the orbits of Earth and Venus) because of the proportion 3:5, which exists both between circulating speeds of those planets and in the form of the piece. Orbis Terrae et Veneris is slow-wave motion in which the undulating layers cross and either approach or recede from one another. This makes the harmony sound sometimes lucid and sometimes clustered. The composition is dedicated to Finnish organist Tuomas Pyrhönen who also commissioned and premiered it.
